Battle of the Bonds

Course Overview

A lecture/practical course to be presented by Prof R van Noort, Professor in Dental Materials Science from Adult Dental Care at the University of Sheffield School of Clinical Dentistry.

Aims:

  • To introduce the dental practitioner to a wide variety of tooth coloured restorative materials and their associated bonding systems.
  • To undertake a series of practical exercises involving the use of these materials.


Learning outcomes:

  • To appreciate the importance of the various stages used in achieving an adhesive bond
  • To understand the reasons and significance for the differences in the procedures used for these products
  • To improve knowledge and understanding of the range of tooth coloured direct filling materials and their associated bonding systems and thus better inform decision making about materials selection.

10.00    DEMONSTRATION    “How to do your own bond strength test”

10.30    COFFEE     Discussion

10.45    PRACTICAL    “You’ve been shown, now do it yourself!”

12.00    LUNCH

13.00    LECTURE    Dentine bonding: “How did we do”

13.30    LECTURE    “GIC’s, RMGIC’s and Compomers”

14.15    TEA     Discussion

14.30    DEMONSTRATION    “How to mix GIC’s etc.”

14.45    PRACTICAL    “You’ve been shown, now do it yourself!”

16.00    CLOSING REMARKS

CPD hours: 7.5 hrs of verifiable CPD.
